How do I convince my mom that I should live on my own?

My guess is that she saw the dorms and thinks dorm life would be better for you -- you'd meet more people, have more fun, and perhaps become more outgoing. (I definitely saw a lot of shy people in college who became more outgoing from living in the dorms and having people to hang out with.) No parent wants their child to be all alone out in the world -- we want them to have a circle of friends who care about them and eventually a family of their own. Solitary people, in particular, need to develop the social skills that will help them survive on their own. Your best argument that is that you can study better in a quieter environment than a dorm, plus you've already researched clubs and other activities to join once you get to school so that you can meet people that way.
