What is the difference between marriage relationship and bf/gf relationship?except papers.?

Personally, I don't see the point in marriage anymore. Marriage was originally used to claim ownership and have legal rights over the woman. It was also largely to do with religion. Now days people are having children and have long committed relationships without that piece of paper. If my long-term partner wanted to get married I might consider it, but I don't think I'll ever feel a great need to get married. After all, there are so many divorces, people will still cheat etc and then it's a long, big hle to separate and move on.
