Digital Camera defect?

I bought the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP2 yesterday, and when I was playing with the camera display at Best Buy yesterday, the quality looked fine. But when I bought the actual camera, taking picture looks like SHITTY webcam quality. It's kind of grainy, and not 100% clear even when I put the focus thing on. And it makes my hair look blue/purple in my room, but the lightings fine.. Is this a defect?
