I can't directly say that you love him but you have the deepest feelings for him. He might have tried to avoid you because he wanted to choose another path of relationship. He tried that much to keep you away unlike during your initial state which shows losing of interest or say change of mind. No one knows what's hidden in his mind. It would have been good if you could have reached to the depths of his heart. Now sadly there will be too little chance to face him. Try to find another person if you can and also forget him if possible. May be you two weren't meant for each other.
